FAQ's
Free Initial Consultation
I offer a free 15-minute consultation by telephone or online.
This provides an opportunity for us to briefly discuss what has brought you to therapy, answer any questions you may have and explore whether working together feels like the right fit.
There is no obligation to book further sessions following the consultation.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy.
People seek therapy for many different reasons, including anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, stress, burnout, low self-esteem, life transitions and personal growth.
If something is impacting your wellbeing or quality of life, therapy may provide a helpful space to explore and understand what is happening.
How often will sessions take place?
Most clients attend weekly sessions, particularly at the beginning of therapy.
However, we can discuss a frequency that best suits your needs and circumstances.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no fixed answer to this question.
Some people benefit from short-term therapy focused on a specific issue, whilst others choose longer-term support to explore deeper patterns and experiences.
We will regularly review our work together and ensure therapy continues to meet your needs.
Do you offer therapy online?
Yes.
I offer online therapy throughout the UK, alongside in-person sessions in Leeds and York.
Many clients find online therapy flexible, accessible and just as effective as face-to-face work.
Do you offer in-person sessions?
Yes.
I provide in-person therapy in Leeds and York, as well as online appointments.
What happens during the first therapy session?
The first session is an opportunity for us to explore what has brought you to therapy, discuss your goals and begin building a shared understanding of how we might work together.
There is no pressure to share everything immediately. We work at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
What is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps people process traumatic experiences and difficult life events that continue to impact them in the present.
EMDR is commonly used for trauma and PTSD but can also help with anxiety, low self-esteem and relationship difficulties linked to past experiences.
Is EMDR suitable for everyone?
EMDR is not always the most appropriate starting point for every individual.
Part of our initial work together will involve exploring your needs, experiences and goals to determine whether EMDR is likely to be beneficial.
Does EMDR work online?
Yes.
EMDR can be adapted successfully for online therapy and many clients find it just as effective as face-to-face sessions.
Do I need to talk about every detail of my trauma during EMDR?
No.
One of the benefits of EMDR is that it does not require you to repeatedly describe distressing experiences in detail.
What is Couples Therapy?
Couples Therapy provides a supportive space for partners to better understand one another, improve communication and address challenges within their relationship.
Couples often seek support for communication difficulties, recurring conflict, emotional disconnection, trust issues and life transitions.
Do both partners need to attend Couples Therapy?
Yes.
Couples Therapy is most effective when both partners are willing to engage in the process and attend sessions together.
Is Couples Therapy only for relationships in crisis?
No.
Many couples seek therapy to strengthen their relationship, improve communication and deepen connection before problems become more significant.
What is Walk & Talk Therapy?
Walk & Talk Therapy is counselling that takes place outdoors whilst walking rather than in a traditional therapy room.
Many people find that being in nature and moving whilst talking helps them feel more relaxed and comfortable.
Do I need to be physically fit for Walk & Talk Therapy?
No.
Sessions take place at a pace that feels comfortable and manageable for you.
What is Clinical Supervision?
Clinical Supervision provides a reflective space for counsellors, psychotherapists, trainees and helping professionals to explore their client work, professional development and wellbeing.
Do you supervise trainee counsellors?
Yes.
I welcome enquiries from trainee counsellors and qualified practitioners.
What supervision model do you use?
My supervision work is informed by the Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision, alongside a collaborative and reflective approach tailored to the needs of each supervisee.
Do you offer online supervision?
Yes.
I provide online supervision for practitioners throughout the UK, as well as in-person supervision in Leeds and York.
What is your cancellation policy?
I ask that at least 48 hours' notice is provided if you need to cancel or rearrange a session.
Cancellations made with less than 48 hours' notice may be charged at the full session fee.
